Pogo_Bret: Last time Pogo_Tahd and I both reviewed the same game. This time it’s just me. Maybe he didn’t like the crazy font color I gave him. Oh well maybe next time we can spar some more. Anyway, onto the review!

White Haven Mysteries is … are you ready for this? A hidden object game! If you thought all hidden object games required a colon in their names then White Haven Mysteries is here to prove you wrong! There is also a collector’s edition of White Haven Mysteries. It’s not mentioned on the download page, but the collectors edition unlocks more gameplay, a strategy guide and even some concept art.

So what’s the big deal: Imagine you suddenly wake up in front of a spooky research hospital named White Haven. You have no idea who you are or why you are there, but the place is boarded up and looks like its been abandoned for years. (Hint: Not everyone has abandoned the place and there are still some creepy inhabitants!) After a brief tutorial you are set loose to explore the place, find hidden objects, solve puzzles and save the day and maybe even yourself in the process!

I was happy to discover that the game takes place in a modern setting – no 1800’s-esque horse and buggies or top-hats here. I did however see something that resembled a gas lamp, but I’ll let it slide!

White Haven Mysteries does its best to creep you out. But, when the game instructed me in the intro screen to “Turn off my lights and play at night” I just had to chuckle. Don’t worry, there will be plenty of shadows skulking in dark corners, scary breathing and blood curdling screams to keep you focused. But, unless you have no stomach for it, I doubt you’ll be rushing to turn all the lights on in the house any time soon.

Overall the experience is fun, and sure to keep you busy exploring its dark mysteries for hours. And just wait until you see the “Telephone” puzzle. I don’t want to give away the surprise, but it was really cool!

Give it a try and enjoy your stay at White Haven….(insert insidiously scary laugh here)!
