Tikis Ask; Why Is Pogo Like Pineapples?

By Bret D. | October 13, 2009

Green: Hello boys and girls, women and men, welcome to Tiki Brothers Tip Talk!

Red: Green, would you like a pineapple?

Green: Oh Hi Red… sure! I’m always down for some tropical fruit! And I love pineapples!

Red: Here you go… whoops! *thud*

Green: Dude! Red! You totally dropped my pineapple while it was still behind your back!

Red: Of course I did, Green! But I did it to lead us into today’s first question! How cool is that?

Green: Oh brother… Alright, fine lemme have it.

Red: All Right!

A Tiki Reader writes:

Why is it that sometimes when I’m in the middle of a game, the game just suddenly disappears?

Green: Ahhhh now I get it!

I like to call this the “bait and switch effect”. Imagine you are sitting down, playing your favorite game, and suddenly bam! The game is gone, and you are sitting there, looking at the “Play Now” screen again with no explanation of what went wrong.

Red: When a game quits on you it is supposed to pop up an error screen that tells you what went wrong. You might have seen this with the “Cripes” error message, or the “Cannot Load Game Images” error message. This message seems like its appearing in the game window. Guess, what? It’s not!

Green: That’s right. The game window is supposed to close, and in its place a new window should pop-up with the error message telling you what went wrong.

Red: Just like in my pineapple example! In some cases, this error message gets blocked by our old friend the pop-up blocker! The game quits and gets replaced with essentially … nothing.

Green: Well sometimes it gets replaced with a “BOINK” sound… but that’s another story!

Red: We need to disable the pop-up blocker for Pogo. Until we get this error pop-up message, we cannot go about figuring out exactly what is wrong, so we have to fix your browser so this error message can pop-up. Normal techniques for allowing pop-ups might not work (Since you don’t want to sit around holding the CTRL key hoping the error will happen).

Green: To disable the blocker with Internet Explorer do the following: First, click on “Tools” and then choose “Internet Options”. Next, click on the “Security” tab. Then, click on the “Trusted sites” icon, and click the button that say “sites”. In the “Trusted sites” screen, type in ‘pogo.com’ then click “Add”. You should be good to go. Your pop-ups will no longer get blocked.

Red: So next time the game decides to quit on you it won’t simply disappear, this time you will see the actual error message! How Exciting! Once you have that error message, you can actually figure out why the game didn’t feel like running any longer, and we can go about fixing it at that point.

It might be something like low memory, connection issues, or *gasp* a bug! At least you will know though!

Green: Yep and knowing is half the battle!

Red: Hah! Alright, let’s move on to the next question. You know when you want to show someone your Pineapple, but instead you show someone your face?

Dorothy asks:

How do I get my favorite badge back as my icon on “who’s here?” I didn’t change anything, but my face suddenly appeared. Want my favorite badge to appear once again?

Green: Pineapple? What on Earth are you talking about? Anyway… Thanks for the question Dorothy. It looks like you may have accidentally chosen your Mini to show up instead of your favorite badge icon. We can fix this pretty easily!

Red: Right you are Green. The easiest way to do this is to go to the Pogo homepage, and then click on the “See My Badges” button.

Green: On your Badge screen, scroll to the bottom of the page and look for the text that says “In the “Who’s Here list, show my:” line. Make sure that “badge” radio button is clicked. Next bellow that look for the “Show my Badge or Pogo Mini in:” text. Make sure “All rooms” radio button is checked.

Red: Great and you’re done! Your Badge will show up instead of your Mini! And on to the next question! You know when you try to mail someone a pineapple but they never get it?

Golf-Guy asks:

Why am I having trouble sending guest passes to my friends? Pogo sends me a message saying the pass has expired without being redeemed, yet my friends tell me they never got the pass.

Green: Red! Dude! Enough with the Pineapple analogies! Sheesh! Good question Golf-Guy, it sounds like a spam-blocker. But, hold tight, it might not be! If it is a spam blocker the fix is quite simple. Have your friend make sure their email service allows emails from customerservice@pogo.ea.com. (NOTE: This is a no-reply email, so you will not get support with this email address. Instead, visit our help pages!) Also they should check their “junk mail” box just in case the email got blocked anyway.

Red: If that doesn’t work, don’t worry! There could be another simple fix. Your friends email address might be incorrect on their Pogo account. Have them double check their account information in the “My Account” screen on Pogo so they are 100% sure that their email address on file matches their screen name. You might be surprised at how often this is the case!

Green: Nothing surprises me anymore… not even our final question for today! It’s my turn! You know how when you buy a pineapple, then you misplace it?

Betty asks:

I bought Tri-peaks 2 a long time ago but lost the game when I had computer problems. I sent my question into Pogo help once and they said they would send me the registration codes for all my games in an email. BUT I never received it :(

Red: Hey! Only I am allowed to make pineapple jokes! Betty, most likely, our customer support did send you a reply; you just have to make sure you are going to the right place to get that reply. It most likely won’t be in your email box. First thing you will want to do is visit Pogo’s customer support pages. Once there, hit the “login” button, and sign in with your Pogo screen name and password.

Green: Great, now that you are logged in, let’s check your support history. Click on “My Questions” over on the left side. You will see your customer support history. Your emails and our replies! Cool huh? If for some reason you have no reply from us, simply open up your support ticket and update it. If you can’t update it, grab its reference number (it like this: 123456-123456) and send a new email and make sure you include your old reference number.

Red: And as always, if you have more questions about how the customer support process works, take a look at this Tiki article from a while back! Help With Help!

Green: Whew! That was fun! Hey Red, all this talk about pineapples is making me hungry. Want to go sneak over to Tex Carter’s plantation and nab a few?

Red: Hmm borrowing pineapples… that gives me an idea for another question…

Green: No way dude! Me hungry! Less talk more Pineapples!

Red: Fine, fine, maybe next time! Speaking of next time, see ya’all next time!

If you have a question for the Tiki Brothers, drop us a line and your question may be featured in a future Tiki Brothers Tip Talk! By everyone!

Green: Later Dudes and Dudettes! Hey Red, think Tex still has all those bear traps hidden in the bushes?
